is year, The Riverwalk is proud to once again be part of Lumiere Durham, the UK’s largest light festival, which transforms the city with stunning works of light art from around the world. Visitors can experience two thought-provoking installations right here at The Riverwalk.
Vault of Echoes
Artist: Aaqib (UK)
The threads that bind
Vault of Echoes brings together two striking visual traditions – the concrete brutalism of Durham’s iconic architecture and the intricate geometry of Islamic art. Inspired by the bold forms of Kingsgate Bridge and Dunelm House, Aaqib has created a contemplative installation that invites visitors to pause and reflect. It’s a space where architectural presence meets delicate design, and where two worlds come together in harmony.
LOVE IS
Artist: Kevin Edworthy (UK)
LOVE IS: based on a true story
Durham holds many stories, and Kevin Edworthy’s LOVE IS tells one rooted in the city itself. Thirty-four years ago, on his very first day working at Durham County Council, Kevin met the woman who would later become his wife. Drawing on his background in street photography, this playful installation reflects both his personal journey and his keen observations of everyday life in Durham – its people, its places, and its moments of chance connection.
